Day of Peace Geneva (article en français très prochainement en ligne)Day of Peace UN Hq Geneva. The International Day of Peace, also known as the World Peace Day, occurs annually on September 21. It is dedicated to peace, or specifically the absence of war, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone. It is observed by many nations, political groups, military groups, and people over the world. The first year this holiday was celebrated was 1981.

Belfast's Billy Murray was in Geneva yesterday (Sunday) and curently there today Monday 26th July on a whistle-stop tour with Co founder of 'The Peace Fighters' Mr Carl Emery. The peace fighters were launched at the UNICEF HQ in Swizerland. Murray and Emery's Fighting For Peace programme was officially launched in front of an impressive array of diplomats, senior politicians and international press. The Director of UNICEF, Irish Ambassador, British Ambassador, current and past British consul generals – and topping that the initiative received a personal message from the President of Ireland Mary McAleese. Now the Peace Fighters are setting up for an even bigger day at the UN's 'Day of Peace' - more on this later.... |
